Varicose Veins

Don’t let painful varicose veins keep you from enjoying the lifestyle you love!

More than 80 million Americans suffer from varicose veins. Varicose veins are superficial veins that have become enlarged and have lost their ability to effectively transport blood. With 90% of all blood volume carried by the deep system, varicose veins are not effectively contributing to your overall circulation. Varicose veins are twisted and enlarged, often dark blue in color, raised above or near the surface of the skin. These veins are often a symptom of an underlying condition called venous insufficiency. If left untreated, large varicose veins can lead to chronic swelling, skin color changes, eczema type symptoms and ulcerations that might not heal until the veins are eliminated.

Evaluation
A medical history and physical exam is carried out initially to assess the problem and determine possible causes. These are often supplemented by a venous ultrasound evaluation, which provides a detailed “road map” of the superficial and deep veins, enabling Dr. Miller to plan the best course of treatment.
